Exploring, Laughing, Connecting: Our Summer Trip to Thetford Forest

By 29th August 2025September 7th, 2025No Comments

We had a brilliant time on our summer coach trip to Thetford Forest, where two coaches full of children and their families enjoyed a day packed with fun, fresh air, and friendship.

From woodland walks to shared picnics, the forest was alive with laughter and smiles. New friendships blossomed, and families had the chance to relax and connect – all with gentle support from The Red Hen Project available in the background, just in case it was needed.

For some children, this trip may have been their only opportunity to travel outside of Cambridge this year. That’s why these experiences matter so much – they offer not just a change of scenery, but a chance to build memories, confidence, and connection.

Trips like this also make a real difference when children return to school in September. After a positive shared experience, children often come back feeling more confident, settled, and ready to learn. It helps strengthen relationships between families and schools, and gives children something joyful to talk about – a boost that can carry them into the new term with a sense of belonging and optimism.

We’re incredibly grateful to Cambridge City Council for their contribution to this trip and to our wider programme of school holiday activities. Their support helps us make sure no child misses out on the joy of exploration and togetherness.

If you, your business, or your community group would like to help us provide future trips or activities, we’d love to hear from you.  Get in touch:givesupport@redhenproject.org
