Wellies in the Woods: Big Fun in the Great Outdoors

We had a wonderful time running our Wellies in the Woods session at Milton Country Park — a morning filled with fresh air, muddy boots, and joyful exploration!

This outdoor play programme is all about helping families connect with nature through fun, creative activities in local green spaces. Designed to support children’s wellbeing and development, it encourages little ones to explore, play, and enjoy the outdoors – rain or shine!

The programme was created by Groundwork East, and we’re incredibly grateful to Hannah Smith for the fantastic training and resources that helped us bring it to life here in Cambridge. Her support has been key in helping us deliver sessions that are both meaningful and fun for families.

We also want to say a big thank you to Christine Sprowell from Get Moving Cambridge, and to Cambridge City Council, whose funding made this session possible. Their backing helps us continue offering inclusive, nature-based activities that strengthen family bonds and support children’s emotional and physical wellbeing.

It was brilliant to see so many families join us – getting creative, exploring the natural world, and making the most of the outdoors together. These moments of connection and play are at the heart of what we do.
